BURGER FEST X

Its that time again- Burger Fest. A chance for vegetarians to shine, to prove that we don’t only eat rabbit food, yes, we too can eat massive patties with oozing cheese, barbecue sauce and various other layers of yumminess. This was the second annual burger fest, and I have to admit it was a couple of weeks ago so I don’t really remember too many specifics.. woops. To sum it up, Jon’s burger was topping focused, and mine was pattie focused.
Jon’s:

I can’t remember the name of that patties he used, but that’s not important.
Jon marinated and sauteed onions in a mix of equal parts chipotle hot sauce, veg broth, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, and brown sugar, fried some honey/chipotle glazed facon and topped his patties with a homemade blue cheese roasted garlic and herb spread (yum), along with sweet brown sugar BBQ sauce, lettuce and of course, tomato. He cut the bun in thirds to create more layers and texture.
Mine:

I made my patties with sweet potatoes, black beans, grated cheese, smoked paprika, grated carrots, and fresh cilantro. The patties were a bit… unstable, so next time I would definitely use Vital Wheat Gluten or bread crumbs. They were topped with radish crisps, facon, avocado, jon’s onions, tomato, arugula, basil mayo, and most importantly.. HALLOUMI.
We had our burgers with fried pickles from the Smokin’ Pig (Harrisonburg, VA), and sweet potato fries. I couldn’t move for at least three hours- clearly an indicator of success for burger fest.
I THOUGHT I saw Halloumi in there! I haven’t even SEEN any at the market. Not even Henry’s : (
ahh i know, its so hard to find here. I bet you miss it, especially because of your hook up (I dream about the halloumi fridge every night).
